This year's castle tour presents Shakespeare's most famous drama: Macbeth. The drama explores the corruption of power and its devastating personal and political consequences while remaining extremely entertaining - told as a gripping, dark thriller full of ambition, violence and the supernatural.
Paul Stebbings' production has been touring the world since 2001 and is one of the most frequently performed Macbeth productions of this century. Physical acting, the permanent presence of the witches and the haunting music by Paul Flush create a dense, almost cinematic atmosphere.
Above all, however, the production makes Shakespeare's poetic power tangible - and shows that excessive ambition does not lead to greatness, but to emptiness and decay.
