Glücksburg Castle is being spruced up!
The cleaning of the façade has now been completed successfully! The castle now presents itself to the visitor in a radiant new look.
In addition to the plastering, further construction work, such as the repair of damage on the window lintels has been carried out.
During the repair work in the autumn it became apparent that some of the damage on the walls was worse than anticipated, which in turn pushed the cost up slightly
The Glücksburg Castle Foundation would like to thank the following donors for their generous contributions towards the repair of the facade:
- The European Union programme Future in the country for providing 50% of the necessary means
- The Schleswig-Holstein office for the preservation of monuments
- The German Foundation for the preservation of monuments
- The Friends of Glücksburg Castle
- The Sparkassen Foundation of Schleswig-Holstein
- The Sparkassen Cultural Foundation of Schleswig-Holstein
- The Flensburg Sparkasse
- The Danisco Germany GmbH
Work on the Facade is progressing.
The vegetation, which had partly eaten its way into the Southern side of the facade had to be removed with the help of a powerful water jet.
All the window lintels next to the South-Eastern tower had to be reconstructed.
All the chimneys were restored in the course of the refurbishment of the facade as well. Bricks that had been damaged by frost were replaced and broken joints repainted. Some joints in the base area also had to be repaired.
